(Local Report) – Hundred of Swat IDPs are settled in different primary and high schools in Chamkani, IDPs says that they are facing major problems in Camps compare to Schools, because a school have already water and electricity facilities. It is reported that the government pay 20,000/- for each school headmaster/principal to insure the removal of major problem of these people. Local resident also play a vital role helping IDPs, they provide shelter, food and other daily usage item to them. Their children are busy in playing cricket and football at school ground. They also participate in other event in Chamkani.

Mughal bridge one of a few surviving Mughal era bridges on gt road, needs repair and preservation from flood.

The bridge is also known by choha gujar or spin pul due to its white color. It spans river bara and connects urmar and phandu payan villages.

Built of waziri tiles, fortified with mud, lime and jute mixture, it is still fit for traffic and one of the prominent marks of the city’s glorious pst. Sarhad conservation network installed an introductory board on the bridge mentioning that it was built in 17^th century and is the only of its kind in nwfp. The bridge history dates back to emperor shah jehan era, while some belive that is was built b y sher shah suri. Local residents say it was built by karim baksh sethi, a local philanthropic who lived from 1861=1930.

            after all those yesars, the bridge still preserves its pretty good shape and being used by high traffic.

In 2003 one of its pillars collapsed, which was letter repaired, but the threats to the historical heritage are there.

Such aspects of nwfp past as this bridge have  been buried under piles of news ab out militancy and terrorist, which for years has been ravaging gthe area. There is need for media to cover these aspects too while focusing on talibanistan. If neglected any more, the province will be deprived of its heritage which will be a great loss to the country too in a direct way.

Armed militants attacked the NATO supplying oil tankers in Chamkani area and set six oil tankers on fire early Thursday morning.
Sources said that dozen of Taliban attacked the oil tankers being parked in Chamkani area, they fired several rockets and hurled petrol bomb inside the oil tankers.
Fire broke out in the area, which extended to other vehicles. The security guard present on the occasion made his escape from the site when he saw the armed militants.
Sources informed that pelting of patrol bombs led to fire flames all over the site, causing destruction to six oil tankers. In the meantime, police force arrived too late. The fire flames were visible till Thursday morning and hundreds of people rushed to the site.
After, the incident heavy contingent of police rushed towards the spot and cordoned off the area. The fire brigade reached the spot and after eight hours they succeeded in extinguishing fire.
Meanwhile, militants also fired several mortars in Adezai village, which resulted in damage of six houses of common people.
Those persons whose houses were damaged including the house of Gul Hussain son of Khan Mir, house of Badal son of Qaiser Khan, Moosa Khan, Spir Gul son of Nek Alam Jangriez Khan son of Moosa Khan and Khan Wali son of Jamal Jan.
The attacker made their escape successfully while police lodged FIR against the unknown militants.   ( The Nation)

6 oil tankers burnt completely following an incident of fire eruption, which resulted for tankers to catch fire in the Chamkani oil tankers’ storeroom here while thousands of liters petrol burnt to smoke on Thursday.

The blazes were horrified enough to be brought under control and PAF special fire extinguishing vehicles were brought in after hours of rescue efforts had gone in vain. Following which, fire tenders managed to tame deadly fire flames together with the chemical spray carried out by PAF vehicle, sources said.

More than 30 other parked oil tankers were protected successfully while police said no reason of fire sparking could be surfaced but assured of conducting interrogation into incident, police sources added. (Geo News)

Suspected Taliban militants planted a bomb in northwest Pakistan that destroyed six tankers supplying fuel to NATO troops in neighbouring Afghanistan, officials said Friday. Around 35 tankers were parked overnight at the Chamkani area, outside Peshawar, when militants placed a bomb under one of the vehicles loaded with diesel, petrol and aviation fuel, police official Asmatullah Khan said. The blast triggered a fire which spread and engulfed six tankers, he said, adding that the blaze was only brought under control by Pakistan air force vehicles after local firefighters failed to tame the flames. “They used a special chemical to extinguish the fire,” a security official said on condition of anonymity. The oil tankers, contracted to supply NATO forces, had been parked in an unauthorised area, the official said. Militants have carried out a series of strikes against supplies for US and NATO-led foreign forces fighting against a Taliban insurgency in Afghanistan. The bulk of supplies and equipment required by the foreign troops across the border are shipped through northwest Pakistan’s tribal region of Khyber. (The Nation)
